By Aus-Boxing,com

KRIS George will fight Cameron Hammond for the Commonwealth welterweight title.

Hammond, 27, an undefeated former Olympian was originally scheduled to face OPBF welterweight ruler Jack Brubaker on October 29th. However, Brubaker suffered an ill-timed hand injury and in has stepped Kris George.

“Friday November 25th at Rumours International is locked in,” confirmed Brendon Smith.

“This is exciting news and what a great couple of months we have for boxing fans.”

Tickets for the historic bout will go on sale at TGW & Smithy Promotions card on October 22, also at Rumours International. Both fighters will also be on hand on the night and will go face-to-face for the first time.

“I can confirm both Kris and Cameron will be present at our October 22 fight show,” Smith added.

“We will present them to the crowd and they will meet face-to-face. Tickets will go on sale from that point.”

“It will be the beginning of a huge build up for this super fight, it doesn’t get much bigger that that.”

With contracts signed and a date and venue set – the games have begun.

“This is a bout between two men who have just the one defeat between them,” Smith continued.

“The fact that the Commonwealth has verbally agreed to sanction it speaks volumes of the standard of this fight.”

“The Commonwealth title is one of the most prestigious belts in the world of boxing. It’s been around thirty to forty years since two Australians have fought for a Commonwealth title in Queensland.”

“The Toowoomba fans deserve this. This is huge for our region and our country.”
