CAN XU TO DEFEND WBA INT’L SUPER FEATHERWEIGHT TITLE OCT. 3

UNDISPUTED World Boxing Association (WBA) International super featherweight champion Can “Monster” Xu of China will be defending his title against former WBA world super bantamweight champion Nehomar Cermeno of Venezuela on October 3 at the Gym of Datong University in Datong, China.
It will be Xu’s fifth title-defense of the vacant crown he won by a unanimous decision against Brazilian Isaias Santos Sampaio last February 12, 2016.
The 23-year old orthodox fighter from Suzhou, China last defended his title via a unanimous decision against Australia-based Filipino fighter Jack Asis last May 7 at the Shan Xi Normal University Stadium in Xi An.
Xu also retained his title with UD wins against three other early challengers in 2016 — Corey McConnel, Ramiro Blanco and Spicy Matsushita.
Xu’s new challenger Cermeno, on the other hand, lost his WBA world super bantamweight title by retirement to Japanese challenger Shun Kubo in his last fight held April 9 at the EDION Arena in Osaka, Japan.
The 37-year old Cermeno scored his last win by a split decision only against China’s Xiaojun Qiu to retain his WBA world super bantamweight title last December 17 in Hangzhou.
Cermeno is also a former interim WBA world bantamweight, WBA Fedelatin bantamweight and WBC FECARBOX bantamweight champion.
The Xu-Cermeno championship fight is promoted by China’s no. 1 promoter Liu Gang of Max Power Promotions.
