Saul “Canelo” Álvarez will face Callum Smith on December 19 at the Alamodome for the vacant World Boxing Council super-middleweight title.

However, this will not be the first time the Mexican boxer has faced a Smith. In fact, the Son of Guadalajara has already clashed with one, Liam Smith who is older than Callum, but younger than Paul and Stephen, all of them professional boxers.

On June 24, 2016, it was announced that Liam Smith would make the third defense of his world title against Mexico’s Saúl ‘Canelo’ Álvarez on September 17 in the main event on an HBO card. Subsequently, it was announced on July 18 that the fight will take place at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. The fight was at the official super welterweight limit of 154 pounds.

That was Liam’s first loss as a professional. He was knocked down after an impactful left hook to the body in the ninth round. Additionally, Smith was knocked down once in the seventh round and once in the eighth.

Álvarez dominated and also set a mark. The fight broke the boxing attendance record at the stadium, with a total audience of 51,240.

Now, “Canelo” will face Callum and hopes to repeat the success story. Meanwhile, Brother Smith will seek to “avenge” his brother.
