Carlos Cuadras, the exciting former super flyweight titleholder, will look to launch his comeback on August 18 in Mexico, when he returns to action against veteran Ricardo Nunez.

Cuadras (36-3-1, 27 KO) has lost two in a row and three of his last four, all of those fights airing on HBO broadcasts. The 29-year-old is also coming off of a stint in rehab for drug and alcohol issues.

His first loss came in 2016 against Roman “Chocolatito” Gonzalez, and the latter two to Juan Francisco Estrada and McWilliams Arroyo. All three losses were to quality fighters in quality fights, but they’re losses all the same. And in the middle, he didn’t exactly look great in a win over David Carmona, either.

Nunez (29-7, 23 KO) is a 30-year-old Panamanian fighter and a bit of a step back in competition, which is smart given the circumstances for Cuadras, who wants to get back on track and get back to the bigger fights with some momentum.

Nunez has twice challenged for world titles at flyweight, losing to Moruti Mthalane in 2012 and Juan Carlos Reveco in 2013.
