FORMER International Boxing Federation (IBF) world flyweight champion John Riel “Quadro Alas” Casimero scored a unanimous decision against Jecker Buhawe in their 6-rounder bout held June 25 at the public plaza in Iligan City.
It was Casimero’s first fight since he relinquished his IBF world title to climb up to the higher division.
The 27-year old Casimero previously won a 10th round technical knockout win against challenger Charlie Edwards last September 10 at the Arena Millenium Dome in Greenwich, London.
Casimero earlier took the title by dethroning then unbeaten Amnat Ruenroeng of Thailand via a fourth round knockout at the Diamond Court in Beijing, China last May 25, 2016.
It was a rematch for Casimero and Ruenroeng, who first won by a unanimous decision against the Filipino challenger on June 27, 2015 in Bangkok.
Casimero, a native of Ormoc City, is also a former IBF world light flyweight, WBO Asia Pacific light flyweight and Philippine Boxing Federation flyweight champion.
