Seventeen months after winning the Interim World Boxing Organization World Bantamweight title, Filipino champ John Riel Casimero is set to test his formidability on September 28 at Uncasville, Connecticut as he will try and defend his belt against unbeaten and Olympian Duke Micah of Accra, Ghana.

Whilst Micha’s last four wins were all fought in the United States, Casimero’s last five wins were by means of knockouts. Boxing analysts can call this match very even as Casimero boasts 20 knockouts of his 29 victories as Micah likewise parallels the score at 19 knockouts in his 24 unblemished record.

Casimero was set to face unbeaten Japanese champion, Naoya Inoue, in April of this year but such match up fell ill as the pandemic affected every industry along with boxing. Inoue is set to fight Jason Moloney later this year after he took a huge win against Nonito Donaire in November of last year.

Three-weight world champion Casimero is currently training at the Bones Adams Gym in Las Vegas for the aforementioned fight. Despite the global pandemic taking its toll on the Sports industry, Casimero’s team never topped training as he kept his strength and conditioning abreast.

Despite being on top of his training regimen, the Filipino Quadro Alas in not taking his upcoming opponent lightly as Micah has also been training in the United States and has an impressive 2019 when he dropped Luis Cruz in Minneapolis in the very second round of their 10-round bout. He also defeated Janiel Rivera, a former world title challenger in December of the same year.

Albeit dismayed about the cancellation of the Casimero-Inoue fight, MP Promotions is on a prowl for their boxer’s supremacy saying they would welcome the idea of a Casimero VS Inoue fight again in the future if such opportunity presents itself.
