Champion Shawn Porter attends WBC Kiev Convention

New World Boxing Council welterweight champion Shawn Porter told the Convention that when he first met WBC President Jose Sulaiman, Don Jose predicted he would fight for the title and one day be champion of the world.

Mauricio Sulaiman also told Shawn this in the WBC 2015 Las Vegas Convention. Seeing all the green and gold champions going up on the stage, convinced Shawn that he would work to achieve the same accolade. And in the superb and competitive fight against Danny Garcia, his team urged him to: “Go out and get it!”

Shawn also said: “I put my heart into that fight to get this championship title. This title has been wrapped around my heart for a long time now. Mr Jose Sulaiman saw something in me that as a young person, I couldn’t see in myself. And for Mauricio to see those same things, it really helped me to become aware of what I could do and gain more confidence to win this title. Standing up here with all if these champions and being part of this is really thrilling.

“Right now I’m in a position that very few fighters get to be in. For me to have met these goals, it’s very special.

“The best fight the best and that’s what I’m looking to do. No steps back. I’ve spoken to my advisor and said whoever you think I should go out there and fight, then I will. I know that he’s not going to put anyone less than great in front of me. I’m ready for any challenge.”
