Chan Sung Jung’s long-awaited return to the cage appears to be everything but official.
Jung is targeted to headline UFC Fight Night 104, which will occur during Super Bowl weekend, against fellow featherweight contender Dennis Bermudez. MMAFighting.com’s Ariel Helwani reported the news Friday. UFC officials have yet to confirm the matchup.
Jung (13-4) has been out of action since a title loss to champion Jose Aldo in 2013. At the end of 2014, the 29-year-old announced that he would take a two-year hiatus from the sport in order to complete mandatory military service required of South Korean males. His last win was a fourth-round submission of Dustin Poirier in May 2012.
Bermudez (16-5) is currently riding a two-fight winning streak, with unanimous-decision wins over Rony Jason and Tatsuya Kawajiri this year. Prior to his pair of recent wins, “The Menace” dropped two stoppages in a row to Jeremy Stephens and Ricardo Lamas.
UFC Fight Night 104 takes place live from Toyota Center in Houston on Feb. 4.
