Charlie Shane ready for Southern Area title after perfect performance

Undefeated super-middleweight Charlie Shane now ready for Southern Area title tilt after perfect performance

British Challenge belt super-middleweight champion Charlie ‘The Animal’ Shane moved up to 7-0 with a landslide points win over 27-year-old southpaw Bryn ‘The Bruiser’ Wain (0-21).

The JE Promotions seven-fight card featured a former Team GB amateur and a Southern Area title contender but unbeaten super-middleweight Shane stole the show.

His dominant display was the best individual performance of the night. The southpaw switched shots from body to head effortlessly and effectively and came close to scoring his first ever stoppage with the constant, unrelenting pressure he was applying. Referee Ian John-Lewis had long chat with Wain and his corner at the end of the third-round but allowed the gutsy 21-year-old to continue.

The Medway man reflected, “I hurt my man from the off with nasty body shots, I felt his ribs go so I almost stopped him but he managed to survive somehow. I don’t know how he managed to get through the last round.”

Shane looks hugely improved since joining his new gym from the Invicta Gym and manager Joe Elfidh next plans to put an application to the Board to challenge for the vacant Southern Area title, last held by retired Cello Renda.

Manager Joe Elfidh said, “This was his last home fight before I put him forward for the Southern Area super-middleweight title. He has passed all his tests, won eight-rounders, got the British Challenge belt, which the British Board like to see before accepting applications for 10-round Area championship fights. He is ready to be let off the leash now he’s completed his apprenticeship and passed the necessary tests.”

Shane added, “I’m a different animal now and I want bigger fights next year.

“Thanks to Ray Askew, Lee Page and Sam Latham, and my manager Joe Elfidh; can’t find better men to go to war with anywhere.”
