Petch Sor Chitpattana vs. Nordine Oubaali set for June 23rd in Paris

This fight was technically first revealed a couple weeks ago, but it’s now official. Unbeaten Thai Petch Sor Chitpattana and former French Olympian Nordine Oubaali will battle for the vacant WBC bantamweight title on June 23rd in Paris. Luis Nery previously held the belt before doing multiple dumb things and getting stripped.

Asian Boxing also says that Rio gold medalist Tony Yoka will appear on the undercard.

Sor Chitpattana (46-0, 31 KO), real name Tassana Sanpattan, has never fought outside of Thailand and is only 24 years old despite a staggering number of pro fights. He’s ranked #2 by the WBC, while Oubaali (14-0, 11 KO), who competed in Beijing and London, is ranked #1.

With every other major bantamweight titleholder involved in the World Boxing Super Series, one would hope that the winner of this will get involved. Both the cruiserweight and super middleweight tournaments had one major player who sat out (Denis Lebedev and Zurdo Ramirez, respectively), so it would be nice to have all the champs in one place this time.
