Christopher Diaz vs. Masayuki Ito in the works for July 28th

With Vasyl Lomachenko looking to continue his campaign at 135 pounds, ESPN reports that he’ll be vacating his WBO super featherweight title “in the coming days” after defending it four times. As a result, WBO #1 Christopher Diaz and #2 Masayuki Ito are working on a deal to fight for the vacant belt on July 28th in Kissimmee, Florida.

The card would stream on ESPN+ and include Jose Uzcategui’s first title defense.

Puerto Rico’s Diaz (23-0, 15 KO) has worked his way through the ranks on UniMas and ESPN, staying busy and putting together a solid prospect résumé since his 2013 debut. He’ll give up 2.5 inches of height to Ito (23-1-1, 12 KO), who would be making his first appearance outside of Japan and just his second outside of the venerable Korakuen Hall.

Uzcategui (27-2, 23 KO) earned the interim IBO super middleweight title in March with a career-best win over Andre Dirrell, battering the former Super Six competitor to force a corner stoppage after eight.
