One of the greatest partnerships in boxing was this one of aging American trainer Ray Arcel and his exciting boxer, Panama fighter Roberto Duran.
Together, they electrified fans in the 1970s, completely dominating the Lightweight division, craving their name in Boxing History.
Since the late 1960s till mid-1980, they bested opponents in world title fights, thrilling audiences with their unstoppable fighting style based on excellent boxing skills and amazing power for which Roberto Duran went on to be known around the world as “Hands of Stone.”
Ray Arcel was active as a coach from the 1920s through 1980 and trained 20 world champions.
Roberto Duran fought 120 battles from the 1960s till the year 2000, knocking out 70 men, claiming titles in 4 world classes.
Both men were inducted in Boxing’s Hall of Fame.
Arcel passed away in 1994.
Nearly 70-year-old, and despite his many intense battles through the years, Roberto Duran is alive and well in his native Panama.
