Crawford sues Top Rank for Non-compliance and for Racist

Undefeated WBO welterweight world champion Terence Crawford has filed a 6-count, multimillion-dollar lawsuit against Bob Arum’s Las Vegas-based promotion company Top Rank.

The lawsuit, filed in the 8th Judicial District Court in Clark County, Nevada, alleges two separate counts of breach of contract, along with one count each of fraudulent misrepresentation, negligent misrepresentation, breach of implied covenant in good faith and fair dealing, and wrongful breach of implied covenant in good faith by Bob Arum himself, as well as by company president Todd duBoef.

On top of all of that, the lawsuit, from Crawford to Top Rank, also alleges extensive accusations of racial bias against Crawford, an African-American boxer, and “unequal treatment of black boxers” and even specifies that “because this is boxing, a sport with a checkered history, and because Arum is now dismissed as a grumpy white old man, Arum continues to make racist and bigoted statements and deliberately damages the reputation of black boxers without consequence.

So Crawford really thinks that Arum has to legally answer for that.

This is usually because the affected fighters, who have long-term contracts with Top Rank, fear that if they speak out, they will be sidelined, not getting a chance to fight for the duration of their contract, which could be 5-7. years.”

Crawford’s lawsuit seeks compensation of more than $10 million.

Notably, the lawsuit was filed just a couple of months after Top Rank and Crawford ended their ten-year promotional relationship.

Promoter Bob Arum was quick to respond and emphatically denied the accusations, especially the racist one, from champion Terence Crawford.

For Arum, this is a “frivolous lawsuit and a malicious extortion attempt.”

A note from boxing website “BoxingScene” includes Bob Arum’s pronunciation on the subject.

The promoter, who is over 90 years old and who has promoted great black champions, such as Muhammad Ali, George Foreman, Marvin Hagler, Thomas Hearns, Ray Leonard and Floyd Mayweather Jr., said:
“Bud Crawford’s lawsuit against Top Rank is frivolous.
“His vile accusations of racism are reckless and indefensible.
“He knows it, and his lawyer knows it.
“I have spent my entire working life championing black boxers, Latino boxers and other boxers of color.
“I have no doubt that the Court will hear Crawford’s case for the malicious extortion attempt that it is.”
Wao.

And what do you think about all of this?

Is Crawford right?

Or is Arum right?
