Cris Cyborg says having to do UFC 232 medicals during fight week is ‘ridiculous’

Cris Cyborg thought she’d seen it all, but the fight week for UFC 232 is unlike any she’s had to experience before.

On the second episode of her vlog for her upcoming featherweight championship defense against bantamweight queen Amanda Nunes, Cyborg chronicles her journey around California that involves her getting medically tested to be licensed for fight night Saturday, a process that only became necessary after the event was moved from T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas to The Forum in Inglewood, Calif., in the wake of headliner Jon Jones’s latest drug-testing controversy.

Cyborg previously vented about the lack of communication between UFC officials and the fighters, and on this episode she expressed her frustration about having to get her medicals done on such short notice for the first time in her 13-year career.

“I was supposed to fight in Nevada and they changed it to California,” Cyborg said. “I don’t have a license for California, now I’m doing the other [business] I have to do to make a fight here. This is ridiculous.”

“First time,” she later added when asked if it was normal for her to have her medicals taken during fight week. “And I still have to do other ones and that I don’t know if we’re gonna do. But I have to do it for this fight license.”
