UFC light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier will rematch Anthony Johnson on December 10th.
The UFC light heavyweight title will be on the line at the Air Canada Centre in Toronto, Ontario. Reigning champion Daniel Cormier will defend his title against the very man he beat to become the champion, Anthony Johnson, at UFC 206 on December 10th. Cormier announced the news on Wednesday’s newest episode of UFC Tonight.
Cormier (18-1) was scheduled to rematch Jon Jones at UFC 197, but pulled out with an injury. The UFC 200 re-booking was scrapped during fight week after Jones had failed his pre-fight USADA drug test. Instead, Cormier fought Anderson Silva at the last-minute, and won a unanimous decision, albeit one that was met with boos from the pro-Silva crowd. DC won the vacant LHW strap — Jon Jones was stripped of his title after a hit-and-run collision — back in May 2015, when he submitted “Rumble” with a 3rd round rear-naked choke.
Johnson (22-5) has been nothing short of spectacular since he lost to Cormier. He put away Jimi Manuwa at UFC 191, destroyed Ryan Bader at UFC on FOX 18 this past January, and annihilated Glover Teixeira in 13 seconds at UFC 202. Johnson’s loss to Cormier is his only one in his last 13 fights.
Other fights announced for this card are as follows:
John Makdessi vs. Lando Vannata
Olivier Aubin-Mercier vs. Drew Dober
Jason Saggo vs. Rustam Khabilov
John Moraga vs. Zach Makovsky
Poliana Betelho vs. Valerie Letourneau
It should be noted that Cormier vs. Johnson 2 is not necessarily the UFC 206 main event. Dave Sholler tweeted that they are “still working on the card and bout order” is to be determined.
