David Lemieux to move to super middleweight

David Lemieux picked up another victory this past weekend, defeating Karim Achour by unanimous decision, but failed to make the middleweight limit in the process. As a result, promoter Camille Estephan announced that Lemieux will campaign at super middleweight in his next fights.

Lemieux (39-4, 33 KO), who weighed in at 162 pounds, has struggled to make weight in the past and generally fights at catchweights for less significant matchups. That cataclysmic power of his should carry up, but he stands a mere 5’9”, albeit built like a tank.

Imagine him trying to work his way inside against the 6’3” Callum Smith or any of the other strapping lads at 168.

Is this a wise move for Lemieux, or should he double down on consistently making 160? He’s still just 29, so there’s lots of career ahead of him, and it might just not be physically advisable to force himself down to middleweight anymore.
