Heavyweight contender and former world title challenger Dominic Breazeale says he’d be interested in a fight with Dillian Whyte, noting that both of them are high up in the WBC rankings, with no fight against titleholder Deontay Wilder coming for either this year.

“[Whyte is] bound with the situation with the WBC and his silver belt, and I have the WBC mandatory. I only thought it was right for him and myself to get in the ring and square it off as the fans would love to see, so hopefully that fight does come here in the near future. It’s definitely up to Dillian Whyte, but I’m a fan pleaser, and if the fans want to see it, I’m going to be the guy to give it.”

Breazeale (19-1, 17 KO) hasn’t fought in 2018, after going 2-0 in 2017. The 33-year-old former U.S. Olympian has stayed in the news mostly due to some dumb hotel brawl with Wilder or whatever it was that I couldn’t conceivably care less about, and he wants to fight before 2018 is out. Or he says he does, anyway. He’s also sitting pretty on a mandatory for the Wilder-Fury winner.

As for Whyte (24-1, 17 KO), he’s been busy, knocking out Lucas Browne in March and outlasting Joseph Parker in July. The 30-year-old “Body Snatcher” has been hoping for a big fight by the end of this year, but there’s really not a lot out there. Dereck Chisora keeps talking about a rematch, but Whyte has said he’s not interested in that. Breazeale might be more enticing for him, and would be a solid matchup to close what’s been a pretty big year for Whyte.
