Promoter Eddie Hearn of Matchroom Boxing is confident that we’re going to see Kell Brook and Amir Khan square off in 2019, and that the fight could be announced as soon as next month.

From Sky Sports:

“I believe the fight will happen, and I think it will be done before the end of the year. … If we are going to get it done for February or March, we must get it done before the end of the year. … It’s a brilliant fight and, like I said, it’s the first time both guys have sort of accepted ‘this is the next fight for me.’”

Brook (37-2, 26 KO) has a fight on Dec. 8 in Sheffield against Michael Zerafa (25-2, 14 KO), who isn’t expected to give him any big trouble, in all honesty. The Australian is seen as a tune-up opponent for Brook, a stepping stone to a big fight.

Hearn and Brook and Khan (33-4, 20 KO) all seem to want that fight to be Brook vs Khan, but there’s still the question of weight — and more specifically and importantly, Khan’s belief that the welterweight bout should have a rehydration clause, which Brook has laughed off via social media.

But it really is the one and only fight that makes true sense for both guys at this point. There aren’t really any equally interesting options for either of them right now. If not now, then probably never.
