ENGLAND’S IBF 112 WORLD CHAMPION SUNNY EDWARDS OUTPOINTS NICARAGUA CHALLENGER FELIX ALVARADO, WANTS “BAM” RODRÍGUEZ NEXT

SHEFFIELD, England — IBF Flyweight world champion Sunny Edwards won a close decision over dangerous mandatory challenger Felix Alvarado of Nicaragua.

The said that his next big challenge is a battle against Mexican-American former champion Jesse ‘Bam’ Rodriguez.

Edwards, who was walked to the ring by UK grime artist Jaykae, defeat the excellent Alvarado on all 3 of the judges’ scorecards at Probellum’s show in Sheffield.

Edwards, who calls himself ‘Showtime’ is now 19-0 after this third defence of his IBF crown.

Close scores were 115-113, 116-112 and 115-113 at the Utilita Arena, in Sheffield, Edwards adopted home city.

Edwards was full of praise for Alvarado, but says he proved tonight that he can deal with the power of any 112lbs fighter – including Mexican-America star Rodriguez.

The unbeaten former 115 world champ “Bam” Rodriguez has confirmed he is moving into the Flyweight division, and his next fight will be for the WBO 112 world title.

“The Nicaraguan Felix Alvarado is a phenomenal puncher and I sat there and mixed it with him,” said Edwards.

“I rode shots, took shots, threw shots, and if I can do that against Alvarado, then I can do it against anyone.

“Bam Rodríguez, you promised me the fight. Come and get it!

“In my mind, had the fight againt Alvarado 8-4 or 9-3 in my favour.

“So I don’t know what the some of the close scorecards were about?

“I went up clear and then coasted it from there,” ended up saying Edwards.

The Briton champ is an orthodox fighter who relay on skills and speed to score victories. Who would he do agains a tough Japanese, Filipino or Thai challenger?
