Estrada first defense on Sonora home turf against Beamon

By WBCBoxing.com

WBC super  flyweight champion Juan Francisco Estrada will be defending his hard won Green and Gold Belt for the first time at Centro Usos Multiples, in Hermosillo, Sonora on Saturday August 24th against Dewayne Beamon from North Carolina.

Both fighters attended the announcement, at Mexico City`s Food Market. Estrada`s Green and Gold Belt was on display and he was presented with The Ring Magazine Belt.

Estrada (39-3, 26 KO`s) said he feels happy and very fortunate to be fighting in front of his own people. He praised Beamon as a capable and fast boxer aged thirty three, and that he`s preparing for a hard fight.  That preparation is currently in Hermosillo, but it`ll switch to Los Mochis, Sinaloa, this Sunday.  He also said: “I`m happy to be champion as thousands of boxers try to achieve this and few reach here. And I`m determined to remain champion,  with the help of my team.”

Beamon  (16-1-1, 11 KO`s) promises it`ll be a war and he`s aiming to make it: “Fight of the year.”  He says his only loss on points which was avenged was due to food poisoning.  He also stressed: “I`ve got to do this for the whole of the super flyweight division.  We don`t get the respect we deserve.  I have to win to give the super  flyweight divison a face.  A real face!”

“Hermosillo is his home town and he`s a hero there, so we can`t let it be close.  I`ve got to take the fight to him. I can`t leave it to the Judges, and on my resume, everyone  who`s  fought me over twelve rounds, no one has made it past nine.

“It`s going to take a knockout or a couple of knockdowns to win.  I think I need to knock him at least three times to win. I`m game right now!  He looks a little pudgy…I`m not!

He laughs when asked about his nickname which is “Mr Stop Running,” saying with his amateur record of 48-2 and what he`s so far accomplished he`s often been an avoided fighter.

Zanfer Promotions and Matchroom are combinging and pooling their talents and efforts to put this together.  World Boxing Council President Mauricio Sulaiman says that Sonora is the cradle of champions including Julio Cesar Chavez,  Jose Luis Castillo and Tyson Marquez and this event created by two very important promoters will be a real winner.

Kevin Rooney of Matchroom said: “We believe that Juan Francisco Estrada is hands down one of the best fighters in the world.  The promotion Zanfer is providing  is unparralled. We are also honored to be working with Estrada.”
