Boyd “Rainmaker” Melson, the winner of the 48th World Military Boxing Championship  in the 69kg  category, four times US Army Champion and thrice NCBA All American Boxer brought a warm, welcome and golden ray of sunshine, inspiration and hope to Pan Am Place, which  is a home and shelter for many, needy young men, who learn, practice and enjoy boxing.

Boyd Melson went there to spend and to share quality time with Pan Am Place residents listening to their stories and sharing his experiences overcoming adversity in order to achieve the goals he had set for himself. The young men were thrilled and visibly proud to be able to share quality time with Boyd – as one of them said, ‘It’s an honour to break bread with you.’

Boyd  spent time in the ring with several members,  including some of the best amateur boxers, sharing the benefits of his extensive experience. A big hit!

Boyd assisted in a final workout for the Pan Am Place residents. He graciously sparred with each and every one of them, and delivered a fantastically memorable speech about never  giving up no matter what the odds‎. I was watching the faces of the residents and tears were welling up and falling as he spoke. It was a tremendous and magnificent experience for them. We are all extraordinarily grateful to Boyd for giving so generously of his time, and to WBC Cares for making it all happen.
