Floyd Mayweather has been teasing a move to mixed martial arts, and now his protege is doing the same thing. Mayweather Promotions product Gervonta Davis is following in his mentor’s footsteps, taking to social media to express his interest in switching sports.
Davis, who boxes at 130 lbs, was asked by UFC bantamweight Brian Kelleher which division he wanted to compete in.
Better work on that wrestling defense. I can show you it’ll be a fun time #boomtime
Tell ya what you come over to this side and I’ll come over to your side after. Sounds fair to me
While he managed to make a UFC bantamweight bite, this of course, is all just social media posturing, and an actual move to mixed martial arts in incredibly unlikely.
Davis is currently in training camp with a fight lined up next month, where he will look to take the vacant WBA super featherweight title against Jesus Cuellar. He is 19-0 as a professional, and while clearly talented, he has also been criticized by some for not wanting to face the other top fighter in his division in Vasyl Lomachenko.
