DAYER “Die Hard” Gabutan of La Trinidad made a big comeback by avenging his early loss to Roilo “The Phoenix” Golez of Compostela Valley Province via a technical knockout win in the second round last Saturday night at the La Trinidad Municipal Gym in La Trinidad, Benguet.
Gabutan first scored a knockdown with a straight against Golez in the early part of the second round.
Golez, who also threw a few punches, still managed to stand up but he was downed again by Gabutan’s solid hook in the same round. This time, Golez failed to beat already the mandatory 8-count from veteran referee Virgilio Garcia.
A medical team also had to use an oxygen tank on Golez, who was still unconscious on top of the ring.
Gabutan avenged his early setback from the hands of Golez, who also won by a 5th round knockout in their first encounter last June 10, 2016 at the Mandaluyong Elementary School.
“Masayang masaya po ako dahil nanalo ulit ako,” said Gabutan, who took a long rest after losing to Golez.
Gabutan had only returned to his training a few months ago at the Highland Boxing Gym in La Trinidad.
“Sana tuloy tuloy na itong pagbabalik nya sa boxing,” said boxing promoter Brico Santig of Highland International Promotions.
The first Gabutan-Golez bout was also refereed by veteran Virgilio Garcia and promoted by Santig.
Gabutan now has 19 wins with 10 knockouts against six losses and three draws while Golez, a former WBC Asian Boxing Council minimumweight champion suffered his 19th defeat against 16 wins with seven knockouts and one draw.
Gubatan was awarded a golden trophy by promoters Brico Santig and Darwen Miller Dep-ay of La Trinidad, Benguet.
In the main supporting bout, KJ “The Ohayami Boy” Natuplag remained unbeaten by pummeling to submission Bener Santig in the opening round of an 8-rounder match.
The 20-year old Natuplag from Ifugao twice downed Santig in the first round to score his fifth win and 4th by knockout with no loss and only one draw record.
Santig of Kapangan suffered his 3rd loss against 5 wins and 1 draw.
In the undercard, Freddie Gomera (2-1-1) settled to a majority draw with Marlon Balacando (0-0-2) while Jameson Lingbanan won his pro debut by stopping fellow rookie Jones Montes via a technical knockout in the 3rd round.
