“GALLO” ESTRADA RETAINS WBC TITLE IN GREAT FIGHT AGAINST CORTÉS

Juan Francisco Estrada had to work hard, take out all his offensive arsenal and maintain a great rate of fight, even with a fast-paced closing, to win a unanimous decision over Argi Cortés and thereby retain his WBC Super Flyweight Franchise championship in the stellar fight of the great show presented by Zanfer, Marchroom and 2M Promotions, in Hermosillo.

El “Gallo” Estrada (43-3-0, 28 ko’s) landed the power shots, and pressed steadily.

Argi Cortés (23-3-2, 10 ko’s) used a very polite and precise jab, and a counterattack with which he hurt the world champion.

In the early rounds, Cortes’ speed and boxing allowed him to land a greater volume of punches. His 1-2 made Estrada absorb a lot of punishment. The fourth round was in full control for Cortés, who during the three minutes pressed and hit the “Gallo”, and at the end of those four rounds, one judge had an advantage over Estrada, another judge over Argi and the third, tied.

The fifth round was also very positive for the fighter from the capital, so Estrada began to push, went to the front, punished the body with power and rhythm, and in the seventh round, a combination below and above put Cortés on the canvas, so by the end of the eighth round, two judges already had an advantage over “Rooster”, and another over his challenger.

The last four rounds were of alternate domain, Estrada attacking and being very dangerous, putting Cortés in poor condition, and the one led by Ignacio Beristain counter-punching and jabbing.

The last two rounds, both Estrada and Cortés closed with all the momentum and the intention to make it clear that they deserved the victory and gave moments of great action and constant emotions, and the fight went the distance to the joy of the fans.

Juan Francisco “Gallo” Estrada landed the best blows, he had in his favor the fall of the seventh round and had a great closing, for which he scored a well-deserved and well-worked, although disputed victory by unanimous decision, with cards of 115-112 , 115-112 and 114-113.

At the end of the contest, Estrada praised the quality and courage of his challenger, and thanked the support of his audience in Hermosillo, who at all times supported him with the cries of “Gallo, Gallo” and that in the end, they applauded his victory and recognized the quality of their rival.
