In a month filled with fight cancellations, yet another UFC feature bout has been scrapped.
Following a report from The MMA Takeover, Damon Martin confirmed that welterweight contender Gunnar Nelson has suffered an injury that will leave him unable to fight Neil Magnyat the UFC Liverpool co-main event next month. It is reportedly a knee injury which will require surgery, which will surely mean that it’ll be more than a year since his last fight.
Nelson (16-3-1) competed last July, suffering a KO loss to Santiago Ponzinibbio in the UFC Glasgow main event. His appeal to overturn the result due to eye pokes leading up to the knockout was turned down. The Icelander’s last win was a submission of Alan Jouban last March,
Magny (20-6) ended 2017 on a high note, beating Carlos Condit by unanimous decision atUFC 219. He’s 2-2 in his last four, with stoppage losses to Lorenz Larkin and Rafael dos Anjos, and a decision win over Johny Hendricks to go along with the Condit victory.
UFC Fight Night: Liverpool takes place on May 27th with a main event of Liverpool’s ownDarren Till and two-time title challenger Stephen Thompson. The main card airs live on FS1, starting early at 1 PM ET/10 AM PT.
