Boxingtalk interviewed Canadian heavyweight Mladen Miljas, who has a fight coming up August 19th in Brampton, Ontario, Canada.  His pro record is 5-0 with 5 KOs. Miljas has no opponent yet but says it doesn’t matter.
IM: You’ve got another fight coming up August 19th. Your pro record is 5-0 with 5 KOs. Can we expect another KO from you?
MM: I promise a KO!
IM: I believe the main reason why many boxing fans want to watch you fight is because you always deliver a KO.
MM: Yes, I love fighting for my fans. I always want to give my fans an exciting fight.  I want to put on a show for my fans that way my fans will continue to watch me fight.
IM: Knockouts is what makes for exciting fights.  I think about the days when Iron Mike Tyson was knocking his opponents out, that’s what made his fights exciting simply because everyone watching wanted to see Tyson knock someone out.
MM: I grew up watching guys like Iron Mike Tyson,  Lennox Lewis, George Foreman, Evander Holyfield and Riddick Bowe. The 90’s was great for the heavyweight division!
IM: Holyfield was small for a heavyweight yet Evander did well in the heavyweight division!
MM: Yes because Holyfield was champion as a cruiserweight and moved up slowly into the heavyweight division.
IM: Holyfield sure had a tremendous heart for a small heavyweight.
MM: I believe that’s what makes for a great fighter– having a big heart!
IM: Most boxing experts believed after those wars with Bowe that Holyfield was finished but no, Evander kept fighting on.
MM: There’s no finishing Holyfield (laughs)
IM: Now let’s move onto your upcoming fight, you have fought twice this year and now you will be fighting for a 3rd time can we possibly see a 4th fight by the time this year’s end?
MM: I would fight 4 more times if I could if it was up to me I would fight every month!
IM: (laughs) Where do you get all this crazy energy?
MM: I am very motivated.  It’s a privilege and a blessing to do what I love to do and that is to fight.  I don’t look boxing as a job I love boxing. Also knowing that I have the support of my fans makes me feel lucky.  I don’t want to let my fans down.
IM: Going back to Mike Tyson without his fans Iron Mike would have been nobody.
MM: Not just that but boxing is starting to pick up to what it once was just look at the good match ups we have been getting lately like for example Ward vs Kovalev and Joshua vs Wladimir Klitschko these types of fights will make boxing great again! The best versus the best will make boxing great again!  I also plan on having that type of mentality and that is to fight the best!
IM: I agree. Boxing was once in trouble hopefully boxing will become great again.  The fans demanded to see good match ups, the managers and promoters listened and here we are getting very good match ups!  Also your promoter Lee Baxter is doing good things for boxing here in Ontario, Canada.
MM: I am very pleased working with Lee Baxter, I was a spectator at Lee’s most recent show and the entire boxing event was just a great show! Lee Baxter is bringing us lots of good young talent!
IM: Lee Baxter sure is bringing on good young talent to Ontario, Canada guys like Alex Dilmaghani and yourself are what the fans want to see not to forget Lee Baxter also has Sammy Vargas and Sandy Tsagouris and many more good fighters!
MM: There are a lot of promoters who don’t want to take a chance on us.  I am young but Lee Baxter understands me, he believes in me, I am very lucky plus he always puts on a good boxing event.  It is very important to have people who I can trust around me like Lee Baxter and my coach Billy Martin and with guys like that I believe my future of boxing will be bright.
IM: I agree having a good team around you will help you do well both Lee Baxter and Billy Martin are great guys!  As far as Billy Martin goes I believe he just doesn’t get the credit he deserves especially since he’s been around for the longest time.
MM: Many trainers out there is that they want all the spotlight for themselves.  Billy Martin feels like if I do– well he looks good and that’s the way it should be.  Billy Martin always wants the best for his fighters.
IM: Now let’s move onto your next opponent who you don’t even know who you will be fighting on August 19th?
MM: No and it doesn’t matter.  My mentality is to be prepared 100%.  It’s always good to know who my next opponent is that way I can prepare better but it’s okay we are always ready!
IM: (laughs) How do you train for an opponent you know nothing about?
MM: All I know is this fight will be for six rounds therefore I make sure I am ready to fight for six rounds.  I always prepare for the worse.
IM: That’s if this fight even lasts six rounds?
MM: (laughs) It’s like I always say I don’t get paid for overtime.  I hope my fight ends in the first round that way I can go home early.
IM: That way you can go party!
MM: (laughs) No party just to go home to eat!
IM: Tell us what about your training how’s camp going?
MM: Training is going very well I have not taken one day off in at least one month.  I am very motivated for this fight.
IM: I always see you working hard.
MM: Yes always working. Boxing is a lonely sport and unforgiving sport.  I don’t want to ever lose a fight because I am not 100% ready.  No excuses now if someone is better than me than that’s a different story.  I can never beat myself.
IM: Boxing is also a dangerous sport.  Tim Hague one of the guys you shared the ring with most recently passed away what are your thoughts on that tragedy?
MM: Tim Hague has been on my mind lately.  I think about Tim Hague while training and even when I am at home.  We became good friends.  I try not to look at this as a negative yet positive and that is that I always have to take boxing serious.  Tim Hague was a man who was trying to better himself and his son and unfortunately this tragedy occurred.
IM: Yes it’s sad but that’s why I respect you guys not just anybody can put on a pair of boxing gloves, step into a square circle and fight for their life.
MM: There are different types of fighters those who try to win then there’s fighters who try to survive and then there’s fighters who want to hurt their opponents.  There are fighters who are also willing to die in that ring.  I am one of those type of fighters who steps into the ring by giving my 100%
IM: Now fighters like you remind me of Gatti and Corrales.
MM: What’s funny about the guys you just mentioned is that boxing fans still talk about them, about their style of fighting and the way they carried themselves, they are two of my favorite fighters!
IM: I sure miss Gatti and Corrales, I believe the main reason why both guys had so many fans was not only because of their style of fighting but also because of the way they took the time to mingle with their fans.
MM: I agree it’s important to not only do well inside that ring but also outside that ring and that’s why Muhammad Ali was The Greatest! Muhammad Ali wasn’t just a boxer he also influenced people around the world.
IM: Exactly the same goes with Iron Mike Tyson who is also doing a good thing by helping out the youth with many charity events around the world. I respect fighters who put on a show for their fans and mingle with their fans.
MM: Yes for sure knowing that at least one person out there wants to see me fight and I always keep that on my mind and heart.
IM: Talk to us about swimming I noticed your always swimming what’s all the swimming about?
MM: Well swimming helps me since I don’t take much time off.  Swimming is good for my body it’s good for conditioning.
IM: It’s good to know you’re always ready to fight so no injuries?
MM: No I am good to go! I am just sore but if I am not sore than I am not training hard enough.
IM: I know all about that feeling I remember the days I use to train. Boy was I sore.
