World Champion Jamel Herring and Puerto Rico challenger Jonathan Oquendo are all set to collide this Saturday, September 5, for the WBO Junior Lightweight World Title at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA.
Herring (21-2, 10 KO’s) and Oquendo (31-6, 19 KO’s) were supposed to clash last July. But the American tested positive for Covid-19, so the battle had to be postponed.
Thanks God, this time both boxers are now healthy and will see action on Saturday. 🙏🏼
The southpaw world champ Jamel Herring, 34, won the 130-pound WBO belt in May of last year by dethroning Japanese titlist Masayuki Ito (26-2-1, 14 KO’s).
He then made his 1st defense against the then unbeaten Lamont Roach (19-1-1, 7 KO’s) last November. Herring won over Ito and Roach by points.
The Puerto Rican Oquendo is the next in line.
Will the heavily-tattooed Oquendo, 37, surprise boxing fans by dethroning the fresher, more accomplished Jamel Herring?
Or will Herring be the one to rough up and disassemble the experienced Boricua warrior from wonderful Bayamón, Puerto Rico?
We’ll soon find out.
Herring vs Oquendo for the WBO 130-lbs. world title is promoted by Top Rank and will air live on ESPN +
