Invicta FC champ Virna Jandiroba ‘been training my entire life’ for opponents like Janaisa Morandin

Invicta FC strawweight champion Virna Jandiroba has submitted 10 of her 13 opponents in MMA, six by rear-naked choke, and she has no problem with being called predictable.

The 30-year-old jiu-jitsu specialist puts her belt on the line at Saturday’s Invicta FC 31 event in Kansas City against fellow Brazilian Janaisa Morandin, and doesn’t feel offended at Morandin’s claim that Jandiroba is predictable in the way she fights.

”I don’t hide my strategy from anyone: Take her down,” Jandiroba told MMA Fighting. “I’ve trained with great fighters to get ready for anything that happens in there. I have a variety of takedowns, I haven’t showed all my takedowns in my last fight. I have a plan A, B, and C for this fight.

”I really am very predictable, but let’s see if she can handle this predictability,” she continued, laughing. “My strategy really is to take her down and she knows that, so we’ll see. Everybody knows what I want to do, but nobody knows how I’m going to do it. I want to take her down and I will take her down.”

Jandiroba and Morandin were originally scheduled to meet in March, but Morandin pulled out with an injury three weeks before the event. The unbeaten Brazilian was then booked againstMizuki Inoue for the vacant title, and won via split decision.

”I think I’ve been training my entire life in the sport for girls like Janaisa, this clash of styles,” Jandiroba said. “I usually fight strikers, so I’ve trained for this matchup for a long time. It was good that I fought Mizuki because I learned how to deal with the unpredictable, because everything happened too fast, and Mizuki was the best worst match-up they could have given me.”

Morandin is 11-1 in mixed martial arts with her only loss coming against former Invicta FC champion and current UFC strawweight Livia Renata Souza, and that three-round fight gave Jandiroba some ideas.

“Her loss was to a girl that has a style similar to mine, and Livia was able to take her down in pretty much every attempt except for maybe one,” Jandiroba said. “That fight showed me she has many flaws. She’s a great athlete, a warrior, she has an aggressive striking, but her takedown defense has many deficiencies.

“She can fight on the ground, she appears to be really strong, but technically speaking she has many flaws in her takedown defense and many holes on the ground.”

With most of her wins coming via first-round submission, the 115-pound champion expects another quick finish in Kansas City, even though she guarantees to be ready to go five rounds. She also is pumping the brakes on talks of pursuing a UFC deal as soon as possible.

“I have this goal to be in the UFC, but I’m not as anxious as I once was,” Jandiroba said. “I’m living the moment, enjoying my accomplishments and focusing on what’s next. Invicta is a great promotion, they value women, and I admire them for that, but we know the UFC is the biggest promotion in the world and pays better [laughs].”
