Whyte: I’d love to rematch Chisora, I’d stop him

Dillian Whyte said pretty recently that he wasn’t interested in rematching Dereck Chisora, the two having had a pretty wild brawl back in December 2016.

But Whyte, who may have no better options out there, has seemingly changed his tune:

“I’d love to fight Derek Chisora, as this time I’d stop him. That fight was funny – it was my first 12 rounder and Derek was already British champion. I remember from sparring that he’d come on late in the later rounds. I was inexperienced. I tried to fight him and leave a bit of energy for the later rounds and, even then, I was fitter than him in the later rounds. This time it would be a piece of cake.”

Whyte (24-1, 17 KO) wants to fight again before the year is out, and the opponent list is just a little limited. He’s already scored nice wins over Lucas Browne and Joseph Parker this year, but he doesn’t want to potentially sit out until next April, when he might face Anthony Joshua a second time.

So Chisora (29-8, 21 KO), thanks to a win over Carlos Takam on the Whyte-Parker card, has become a viable opponent. It’s an easy fight to sell to the United Kingdom public in particular, and should be exciting enough. Chisora generally comes to fight, especially in a real matchup, and if he could upset Whyte, who knows? Maybe he winds up in the ring with Anthony Joshua if a bunch of bigger fights didn’t happen.

Anyway, considering I’d expect another brawl, I’m up for Whyte-Chisora II, and I think Chisora is just unpredictable and determined enough to make it interesting, even if I believe Whyte’s a better fighter.
