James DeGale, Lee Selby return December 9 in London

Two world titles will be on the line at Copper Box Arena.

James DeGale will return to the ring after a shoulder surgery layoff, and Lee Selby will be back on the same card on December 9 at Copper Box Arena in London. BT Sport will televise in the United Kingdom.

DeGale (23-1-1, 14 KO) hasn’t fought since January 14, when he went to a draw against Badou Jack in Brooklyn. It was a competitive, entertaining fight, but DeGale underwent surgery a few months later on his right shoulder, and it was unclear if he’d be able to return this year.

He will, with an opponent to be named. A tune-up sort of fight should be expected.

Selby (25-1, 9 KO) has also had a somewhat bumpy 2017. He was supposed to face Jonathan Victor Barros in late January, but Barros pulled out of the fight. Not wanting to waste an entire training camp, Selby returned on the Haye-Bellew card on March 4, winning a non-title fight.

He did face Barros on July 15, dominating the fight and winning a wide decision. Like DeGale, he doesn’t have an opponent for the December card yet. He’s hoping to face Carl Frampton and/or Josh Warrington in 2018.
