Jessie Magdaleno injured, out of November 11 fight

Jessie Magdaleno won’t fight on November 11, but the show will go on.

WBO super bantamweight titleholder Jessie Magdaleno has suffered a wrist injury in training, and has been forced to withdraw from his scheduled November 11 title defense against Cesar Juarez, which was to headline a tripleheader on ESPN.

The show will still go on, just without Magdaleno (25-0, 18 KO), who was set to make his second title defense. He won the WBO title from Nonito Donaire last November, and defended in April against Adeilson dos Santos.

140-pound prospect Jose Ramirez (20-0, 15 KO) will be bumped into the main event slot in Fresno, facing Mike Reed (23-0, 12 KO) in what is essentially part of the WBC’s tournament at junior welterweight to fill the vacancy likely coming if and when Terence Crawford vacates his belt. The winner of Ramirez-Reed will face Amir Imam, and there’s also a Viktor Postol vs Regis Prograis fight in the mix.

The card also still features a fight for the vacant IBF light heavyweight title, with Artur Beterbiev (11-0, 11 KO) taking on Enrico Koelling (23-1, 6 KO) for one of the belts given up by Andre Ward’s retirement.

Top Rank’s Todd duBoef says that the Magdaleno-Juarez fight will likely be rescheduled for early 2018.
