With Kelvin Gastelum off to face Donald Cerrone at UFC 205, Jorge Masvidal will instead fight Jake Ellenberger on The Ultimate Fighter 24 card in Las Vegas, Nevad
Jorge Masvidal was supposed to fight Kelvin Gastelum on the TUF Latin America 3 Finale, but Gastelum has since been moved to UFC 205 for a matchup with Donald Cerrone. Masvidal was very upset over no longer having an opponent, but UFC officials have found him a new one, although it’ll be on a different card.
Adam Hill of the Las Vegas Review-Journal confirmed that “Gamebred” is set to faceJake Ellenberger on The Ultimate 24 Finale on December 3rd, at the Palm’s Resort and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada. The night’s main card will air live on Fox Sports 1.
Masvidal (30-11) is coming off a unanimous decision win over Ross Pearson at UFC 201, which snapped a two-fight losing skid, which consisted of split decisions vs. Lorenz Larkinand Ben Henderson. The 31-year-old moved back up to welterweight after a controversial loss to Al Iaquinta in April 2015. He’s 2-2 since changing weight classes.
Ellenberger (31-11) also fought at UFC 201 in July, and effectively saved his UFC career with a stunning 1st round destruction of Matt Brown. “The Juggernaut” became the first man to finish Brown with strikes, doing so with a vicious body kick and subsequent punches on the ground. Prior to that victory, Ellenberger had gone through a 1-5 stretch over 6 fights, a big fall for someone once close to a title shot at 170 lbs.
The Ultimate Fighter 24 Finale main event will be a UFC flyweight title defense forDemetrious Johnson, who will go against the winner of the TUF 24 flyweight tournament. In the co-main event, former title challengers and current TUF coaches Joseph Benavidez andHenry Cejudo will go toe-to-toe.
