Josh Taylor gets new opponent, Humberto Soto injured

Humberto Soto was scheduled to travel to Glasgow for a fight next Saturday against rising 140-pound star Josh Taylor, but the Mexican veteran is out of the fight with a cut suffered in sparring, and Taylor (11-0, 10 KO) has a new opponent.

That man is Winston Campos (30-3-5, 18 KO), a 25-year-old from Nicaragua, and probably about as good as it was going to get to go to Scotland on a week’s notice. His record is a bit deceptive, too; he’s 13-0-1 since his last loss back in 2013, and while that hasn’t exactly come against top level competition, it’s worth noting.

“I’m delighted to get this opportunity,” Campos said. “I was in training for another fight when I got the call. I’m coming to Glasgow to shock the world. (Taylor) is talented, no doubt, but I’m cut from a different cloth. I’m from the streets of Managua! I have the style to give him nightmares, and I’m very confident that I can rip that (WBC silver) title from him on March 3.”

Taylor notes that Campos is a “rangy southpaw,” unlike the orthodox Soto, and that this matchup presents different challenges. It could be interesting. It could also be a wipeout, but it could be interesting.
