Leandro Issa Notches Stellar Submission In Rousing Comeback

Leandro “Brodinho” Issa just scored one of the quickest victories of his mixed martial arts career.

On Friday, 29 June, the Brazilian put Guam’s Roman “Boom” Alvarez to sleep via arm-triangle choke during their bantamweight clash at ONE: SPIRIT OF A WARRIOR, which emanated from the Thuwunna Indoor Stadium in Yangon, Myanmar.

The BJJ World Champion needed just 86 seconds to get the job done, but he had to overcome a very early scare.

Alvarez, a Trench Warz Featherweight Champion who trains out of Spike 22, did not waste any time in letting everybody know why he is called “Boom.”

The 23-year-old Chamorro threw an explosive left hook, which dropped “Brodinho” 18 seconds into the contest. He followed up with another left, to the delight of the crowd.

However, the youngster could not capitalize, as the 34-year-old Brazilian managed to regain his composure.

As action shifted to the ground, so did the momentum of the bout. Issa was clearly the superior grappler, and that immediately revealed itself.

The Evolve MMA representative locked in a partial arm-triangle choke from half guard, and then maneuvered into side control to secure the hold.

Within seconds, Alvarez was out, and that forced the referee to stop the contest and award the submission victory to “Brodhino.”

This is the third consecutive victory for Issa, who is enjoying a flawless start to his second run in ONE Championship. He improves his record to 16-6, and has his eyes set on the division’s World Title.
