Marcus Browne arrested for domestic violence

Badlefthook.com

2012 Olympian Marcus Browne, who was recently in talks to face Sergey Kovalev later this year, was arrested for the second time in four months yesterday after attempting to break into his girlfriend’s apartment, violating a keep-away order he’d received due to allegedly punching her in December.

His current bail is a measly $500, possibly because he’s friends with members of the NYPD Brass thanks to training at and currently supporting Teddy Atlas’ Cops & Kids Gym. Far be it from me to accuse the venerable NYPD of favoritism, of course.

Browne (21-0, 16 KO) has been one of the more successful members of the U.S.’s London squad in the pros, sitting in the top five of all four major sanctioning bodies. He’s won three straight by knockout, including a two-round wipeout of Seanie Monaghan, since a dubious split decision over Radivoje Kalajdzic.

He was briefly linked to a fight with Artur Beterbiev before switching gears to Kovalev.

Boxing, and sports in general, have a pretty heinous track record when it comes to domestic abuse, so here’s hoping we get some proper justice. Although I’m not sure there’s a more fitting punishment than having to throw down with Kovalev.
