Massey eyes British title shot

Massey has been a sparring partner for Tony Bellew and UFC superstar Rampage Jackson.

Massey says that despite his amateur success, the real highlight would be to win the Lonsdale belt…

WBC Youth Title holder Jack Massey admits he is only concentrating on winning a British title as the Buxton-born boxer looks for a big end to 2017.

Unbeaten in all of his 12 outings, the 24-year-old is now looking to make his mark on the domestic scene having already won an International Challenge Belt and a WBC Youth title.

Having narrowly lost in the 2011 ABA final against Joshua Buatsi, Massey enjoyed a stellar amateur career winning the senior ABAs in 2013 and being picked for Team GB trial a few months later.

However, he says that despite his amateur success, the real highlight would be to win the Lonsdale belt—a feat which now looks a real possibility.

“I had 54 amateur fights altogether, with just six losses. I also won 8 national titles in that time too,” said Massey.

“I was growing quite quickly when the GB trials came around that we were looking at the possibility of turning pro.

“I turned over with Steve Wood, who has been great and I have a top trainer in Bobby Rimmer—who used to work with Ricky Hatton.

“We’ve won three titles already, the WBC Youth Title and the Challenge belts at British and International level.

“But the one everyone wants is the Lonsdale belt, the outright British belt—if I keep winning and putting in the work my chance will come.”

Having also been used as a sparring partner for Tony Bellew and UFC superstar Rampage Jackson, Massey looks sure to be heading to the top.

Although without the support of his huge following and sponsors; Massey knows his dreams would be a lot harder to achieve.

He added: “I can’t thank everyone enough that buys a ticket, I have a huge following where I’m from and they really help when the going gets tough in the ring.

“I also wouldn’t be able to do it without my sponsors St James’ Place in Manchester, HGV Direct and AllYourTraining Ltd.”
