Antonio DeMarco stunned Eddie Ramirez by stopping the prospect in the first round.
In the televised opener of tonight’s PBC on FOX card, we got a shocker result, as former lightweight titleholder Antonio DeMarco took the “0” from highly regarded prospect Eddie Ramirez via first round TKO.
DeMarco (33-6-1, 24 KO) caught Ramirez (17-1, 11 KO) with a left uppercut, and Ramirez, 25, just never really recovered. He was hurt and backpedaled, and DeMarco, 31, acted like a veteran, pouncing on Ramirez and throwing shots at him. Ramirez just didn’t seem to have the presence to deal with the turn of events, and eventually the referee stepped in to stop it at 1:56.
It’s a huge win for DeMarco, who wanted to prove he can still fight. He’d lost three of four coming into this one, dropping consecutive decisions to Jessie Vargas, Rances Barthelemy, and Omar Figueroa, and he then sat out all of 2016 before a tune-up win earlier this year.
Ramirez, obviously, was supposed to win this fight, came in as the prospect, and on paper it appeared a relatively safe step up, but it just all went wrong for him tonight.
Here’s a look at the stoppage. I thought it was an early hook, but judge for yourself:
Too early? Right call?
