Ramirez defends WBC crown this Friday

Jose Ramirez will make the first defense of his super light World Boxing Council title against Antonio “Implacable” Orozco on Friday, September 14 at the Save Mart Center in Fresno, California.

Ramirez (22-0, 16 KOs) is a well-respected fighter from the Central Valley of California for his commitment to immigrant causes and water rights for area farmers. He won the vacant WBC super lightweight title on 17 March in New York, defeating Amir Imam by UD.

Orozco (27-0, 17 KOs), ranked number 3 on the WBC rankings, is a 10-year professional with a resume that includes outstanding victories over former world champions.

The card is promoted by Top Rank in partnership with Golden Boy Promotions and will be televised live on ESPN.

Ramirez was originally scheduled to defend his title on July 7 against Danny O’Connor, but the fight was canceled after O’Connor was hospitalized for severe dehydration before the weigh in.
