Junior welterweight prospect Arnold Barboza Jr pretty much owned the ring over 10 rounds tonight, cruising to a unanimous shutout decision over Manuel Lopez in Corpus Christi, Texas.

Barboza (20-0, 7 KO) dominated the punch stats and distanced himself from Lopez (14-3-1, 7 KO) pretty quickly, winning every round handily and doing some damage over the course of the fight, though not enough to stop the game Lopez early, which is about all Barboza didn’t manage to do.

BLH also scored the fight 100-90 for Barboza, who said after the fight that he hopes to go from prospect to world title challenger, specifically calling out fellow Top Rank fighter Jose Ramirez, the WBC titleholder who is slated to return on Feb. 10.

Whether or not Barboza is really ready for that step up remains to be seen, but at 27, he’s not a particularly young guy in the sport and there may simply not be anything more for him to dowithout just rolling the dice against someone like Ramirez.
