In the main event at Foxwoods Resort and Casino, ‘Sharpshooter’ Matt Remillard TKO’d Fatiou Fassinou at the end of the 4th round in a scheduled 8 rounder at lightweight. Remillard, in his second fight in his comeback, was impressive as he broke down his opponent with accurate combinations and by cutting off the ring. Fassinou was out of his league against the former world title challenger, unable to hurt Remillard with any shots and being warned for excessive holding several times. Fassinou technically retired on his stool between rounds which was wise as Remillard seemed to be getting stronger as the bout progressed, evidenced by his stinging body shots. Remillard improves to 25-1, 13 KO’s and Fassinou falls to 25-6-3, 14 KO’s.

George Arias (7-0, 3 KO’s) defeated oversized Russian Heavyweight Ruslan Shamalov (4-1, 3 KO’s) over 6 tough rounds of boxing. Arias had trouble at times with the forward-moving, heavy hands of Shamalov, but was able to stay active enough during the rounds to earn a well-deserved victory. Shamalov possessed at least a 6 inch height and reach advantage over Arias who was forced to do his work on the inside, gaining confidence with each passing round. Shamalov, a former MMA amateur champion, took heavy shots to the head even though he backed up Arias to the ropes several times with his wide, punishing hooks. The final scores were 60-54, 59-55, and 58-56 for Arias who now lives and trains in the Bronx.

‘Marvelous’ Mykquan Williams (6-0, 4 KO’s) danced around Ariel Vasquez (13-18-2, 9 KO’s)for 6 rounds at welterweight. Williams’ fast hands and 1-2 combinations scored on the flat-footed Vasquez who had little defense all night. Williams was unable to get the KO despite landing to the head and body. Williams earned the unanimous victory, 60-54 on all three judges scorecards.

Jennifer Salinas (20-4, 5 KO’s) out-punched Marquita Lee (3-5) over 6 rounds of action at lightweight. This bout was inserted on the card when Shelly Vincent withdrew due to an injury. Salinas, also trained by Peter Manfredo, Sr., took the opportunity on short notice and proved to be too much for Lee, who also lost to Vincent in the past year. Salinas shows excellent head movement and the high volume of punches earned her the victory of 58-56, and 59-55 (twice).

Super Welterweight Khiry Todd backed up Nicolas Sarouna for two rounds before Sarouna became too winded to continue. Todd connected on serious combinations which ended with a right hook to the head. Todd’s hand speed is impressive en route to his 5th career win at 1:32 of the 3rd round. Sarouna falls to 12-9-1, 9 KO’s.

Radzhab Butaev (6-0, 5 KO’s) brutalized Abraham Alvarez (20-11-1, 11 KO’s) with a right hook body shot in the 1st round which left Alvarez rolling on the canvas and unable to beat the count. Alvarez hit the floor earlier in the round with an overhand left to the face. Butaev is perhaps one of the most interesting rising prospects in the Jr Middleweight division. The final score was KO1 at 1:05.

Cuban Cruiserweight Luis Garcia destroyed Felipe Romero at 1:48 of round 1. Garcia dropped Romero within the first 20 seconds with an overhand right. For the rest of the round, Garcia nearly landed all of his arsenal of punches around the ring. The ref rightfully stopped the fight as Romero was backed against the ropes when his head snapped back continually from heavy blows. Garcia improves to 15-0, (12 KO’s).

Super Welterweight prospect Jose Roman (4-0, 3 KO’s) outboxed William Hill (2-3) over four round of action in the opening bout. At 6’2, Roman was able to keep Hill at bay and lunging most of the bout. Roman has an effective jab and hook that sets up a stinging right cross. Hill toughed it out despite the size advantage but lost 40-36 (twice), and 39-37.
