Report: Jose Aldo vs. Jeremy Stephens targeted for UFC event in Canada

It seems two featherweights who have both expressed interest in fighting each other will get the chance to scrap it out in the Octagon.

According to a report by Combate, a fight between Jose Aldo and Jeremy Stephens will co-headline a UFC event in Canada on July 28th, though a city has not yet been set. Both fighters have verbally agreed to the fight, but the contracts are yet to be signed.

Last month, Aldo told Combate News that he wanted a fight with Stephens at UFC 224 in his native country of Brazil, whilst Stephens indicated on Twitter he wanted the fight at UFC 225 in Chicago.

Aldo (26-4) has gone 1-3 in his last four fights. He is coming off consecutive losses to UFC featherweight champion Max Holloway, and his last win came in July 2016 against Frankie Edgar at UFC 200.

Stephens (28-14) has rebounded fantastically since losing a decision to Renato Moicano in April 2017. “Lil Heathen” is on a three-fight winning streak, starting with a win against Gilbert Melendez at UFC 215, he has gone on to score consecutive second-round knockout victories against Doo Ho Choi and Josh Emmett.

It is believed that this event will be UFC on FOX 30 and take place in the city of Calgary (known for the disastrous UFC 149 event) on July 28th. According to the report, Aldo and Stephens will co-headline the event.
