U.K. lightweight Ryan Scope is out of his co-main event clash with Derek Campos at Bellator Birmingham on May 4 due to injury.

On Sunday, the former BAMMA lightweight champion took to Instagram to reveal his forced withdrawal, apologizing to Campos and noting that he will be ready to return at Bellator’s unconfirmed Dublin date that has been earmarked for September.

Bellator confirmed the news to MMA Fighting and highlighted that the hunt for a replacement opponent for Campos is underway.

Scope (11-2-0) was set to make his second appearance under the Bellator banner on the night following his debut with the promotion in February. At Bellator Newcastle, Scope lost a split decision to longtime lightweight contender Patricky “Pitbull” Freire. Prior to that, Scope had won 11 of his first 12 pro bouts and he claimed a BAMMA lightweight title in Dec. 2017.

Campos (19-8-0) is coming off of back-to-back losses to Freire and Sam Sicilia. Sicilia defeated Campos by split decision at Bellator 212 last December to drop Campos’s Bellator record to 8-6.
