Sean Creagh grabs surprise late-notice win in Dublin

A last minute addition to the card, Sean Creagh claimed something of a bonus win tonight on ‘Celtic Clash 3: Building Champions.’

The Killinarden light welterweight had been in training for a fight in Belfast on Friday October 6th, but jumped in here to face Valentin Stoychev following the withdrawal of Keane McMahon from the card at the National Stadium.

Fighting up at middleweight, Creagh was way out of his comfort zone and understandably lacking sharpness, but cruised to a comfortable four-round points win.

While he was the smaller man, Creagh was the physically stronger in the opening exchanges, pushing back his portly opponent throughout the first round.

‘Creaghzy Horse’ continued to bull forward in the second and hurt Stoychev on two occasions, with the Bulgarian almost being sent through, and then over, the ropes.

Stoychev was left swaying again in the third as Creagh’s raids into range paid dividends. Putting on a good display, the Dubliner was caught with one looping shot after a momentary lack of concentration, but it was one-way traffic at the National Stadium.

The pace dropped in the final round as Creagh rounded off the fight and took a 40-36 win on Emile Tiedt’s card.

The unexpected opportunity sees Creagh improve his record to [6(2)-1(1)], while the hety Stoychev falls to [8(4)-22(11)-4].

With no apparent niggles or cuts, Creagh will now return to preparing for his fight on the Kieran Farrell Promotions card at the Deenish Complex in Belfast on October 6th.
