Sean Turner slams Dave Allen after “agreed” fight on Joshua undercard falls through

Big Sexy claims he had agreed to fight the English heavyweight on just a few days notice. after Allen’s was left without an opponent for his fight this weekend.

Allen [12(9)-3(1)-1] was due to face Lenroy Thomas in a rematch for the Commonwealth title this Saturday on the Joshua-Takam undercard at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff, but the Jamaican was a late withdrawal.

Moves were made to bring in Turner but, following some good noises initially, the Dubliner claims the White Rhino went charging away from the proposed conflict.

Now, with a Thomas rematch refixed for Bellew-Haye 2 card in London on Sunday December 17th, Allen is set to face Scott Saward [3(o)-0]

Turner revealed he has direct contact with a fighter he previously sparred and had offered his services despite the fact he wasn’t in camp. The MTK heavy was confident a deal had been made and he was more than willing to take the fight at short notice knowing victory on an Anthony Joshua undercard in a Sky broadcast stadium fight could change his career.

However, speaking to Irish-boxing.com today he detailed the breakdown of the bout.

“Listen Dave Allen wanted an easier fight than me,” stated an unhappy Turner.

“He contacted me during the week, we agreed to fight, and I was ready to get in there at short notice. I haven’t been training apart from ticking over, but after agreeing to fight me he got cold feet.”

“Maybe he is afraid? Maybe it’s his team or even Eddie [Hearn]?

“All I know is I agreed to fight him and was ready to try and put on a show Saturday, but they decided to go an easier route. As a fighter I don’t understand that kind of thinking.”

Big Sexy was obviously a bit aggrieved he missed the chance to impress in Cardiff on a massive night of heavyweight action, but claims he will have good news for his fans soon.

“I am hearing there is good news and hopefully a big announcement in the pipeline. I can’t say much, but hopefully sometime next week we will have news,” added the fighter who is looking to work his way down to cruiserweight under trainer Pete Taylor in Bray.
