Stronger than ever! WBC and Rocky Herron impart the global drugs awareness campaign

Our WBC world champion Nonito Donaire and DEA Agent Rocky Herron gave us pause to reflect deeply, during a starkly comprehensive discussion about narcotics consumption and the terrible consequences for the consumer, but also on the people who surround them.

During the talk where hundreds of young people connected via Zoom, Rocky Herron took us to the depths of his experiences sharing the pain and tragically shocking stories of thousands of young people who have lost their lives due to drugs. Also, the babies born affected by their mothers’ consumption; little ones that unfortunately suffer from the first day of birth with withdrawal syndrome, suffering excruciating pain, which doctors can only control with doses of morphine.

During this talk, which was a hard confrontation with reality, Herron confessed with shame that the United States is the largest drug consumer and this has been increasing year after year. He revealed that only this last year it was They have lost 90 thousand lives due to overdoses, a figure that far exceeds the losses suffered in the Vietnam War and clarified that Mexico, which is the main transit area, is now itself succumbing to the evil and seductive lure of addiction.

Herron was emphatic in saying that this problem does not respect races, families, genders, beliefs, ages. It can happen to anyone, including within his family, as he shared that his daughter, despite being only 11 years old, met every weekend with her friend of the same age, -he knew the family-, but he never imagined that the 17-year-old son smoked marijuana with the consent of his parents, -even they got it for him as they preferred that he did it at home rather than elsewhere.

So, without knowing his own daughter did what he never imagined, until, after several years, she told him that she smoked for almost a year but that she quit when she realized it was negatively changing her.

This vital and interesting talk was, unfortunately, painfully, senselessly and regrettable interrupted by some unscrupulous person who hacked the session by filtering inappropriate and malicious material which forced the WBC to close the session immediately.

The WBC firmly believes that young people need to fully know about the utter mayhem and hell that drug use causes. We are saddened about what happened yesterday and condemn this type of sabotage, as well as the gross lack of respect suffered by our panelists and guests; However, actions such as these confirm that today more than ever, we must continue to carry this message to all corners of the world, to each young person, each child, and their families.

As our dear friend Rocky Herron says: wrong decisions can lead us to physical and emotional deterioration that can even lead to death.

The talk “I choose my future” is that stroke of reality where Herron urges us to reflect on what we want for the future, where we want to be, where we want to see our children and youth. And he was so clear when he said that after seeing this, no one can say that drugs are a smart or fashionable decision. He insisted that it is up to each of us to say NO, and make the right choices; however, he clarified that it is EVERYONE’S problem. So, we must be vigilant and redouble our efforts.
