Team Golovkin hearing offers from Showtime, DAZN, ESPN with HBO out of boxing

Unless HBO someday makes a return to the boxing world, the premium cable network is out as a boxing provider, which leaves some big questions for some big fighters.

Where will Canelo Alvarez go? What about Gennady Golovkin?

At least in Golovkin’s case, word is already out via Chris Mannix that Team Golovkin has “received overtures” from ESPN, DAZN, and Showtime, which should be of no surprise to anyone. Golovkin, despite his September 15 loss to Canelo, remains a top name in the sport, and he’ll be a hot free agent.

Mannix also tweeted that Tom Loeffler believes Ryota Murata, the Top Rank-promoted WBA “world” middleweight champion, is the most “appealing” opponent for GGG other than a third fight with Alvarez. That could lead to us seeing GGG on the ESPN platform. Murata is currently slated to return on October 20 in Las Vegas, defending his secondary title against Rob Brant, his mandatory challenger.

There’s going to be a lot of fallout here, and a lot of things we didn’t think could happen. We could see Canelo on ESPN. We could see GGG on Showtime or DAZN. Time will tell.
