Terence Crawford on fighting Errol Spence Jr: ‘Anything can happen’

Badlefthook.com

Coming off of last night’s domination of Jeff Horn, Terence Crawford is now the WBO welterweight champion and looking to take on the division’s other big names, most of whom are with Al Haymon, a rival to Crawford’s promoter, Bob Arum.

But Crawford thinks that a fight with IBF titleholder Errol Spence Jr, for instance, is possible:

“I just think businesswise it has to make sense. Al isn’t going to send his fighters to ESPN if it doesn’t make sense, and Bob isn’t going to send me to Showtime if it doesn’t make sense. If the fight makes sense, the fight will happen. I’ve already fought two Al Haymon fighters, so I don’t think that will stop a fight from getting done. … It’s boxing, so anything can happen. A lot people are leaning towards me and Errol Spence, but we never know what tomorrow holds.”

There’s also Keith Thurman, Shawn Porter, Danny Garcia — all of whom are also with Haymon and fight on Showtime.

The TV deals make it hard. The different promoters and representatives make it hard. But can it happen? Sure. Haymon has been willing to send his fighters to other networks to work with other promoters in the recent past, as long as it’s the best fight that fighter can do, and the deal adds up for everyone.

So let’s just hope we get something big with Crawford later this year or in 2019.

For now, Crawford basks in his victorious glow, while Spence gears up for a mandatory title defense this coming Saturday against Carlos Ocampo on Showtime.
