Well, that wasn’t pretty. I mean, Terence Crawford’s boxing is pretty, but that one-way traffic in his fight with John Molina got downright ugly.
Terence Crawford came out right where he left off with Viktor Postol, utilizing perpetual lateral movement to befuddle John Molina Jr and walk him into hard shots at will, over and over again. Molina was never known to be swift afoot, and that one aspect took away any real shot he had at being competitive tonight.
Many of the rounds lacked any real drama since Crawford was just cruising so easily, but the end of the fight came in violent fashion in the 8th round when Crawford caught Molina in a corner and unleashed a barrage that included a vicious body shot that caused Molina to collapse in a heap. Because of the beating Molina had been taking to that point, the referee immediately stepped in to halt the fight.
So, Crawford retains his world titles tonight while Molina wasn’t even eligible to win them. Molina missed weight by a good margin, officially tipping the scales at 144lbs for a contracted 140lb fight, and had to forfeit a portion of his purse to Crawford just for this fight to go forward.
Crawford closes the year in impressive fashion as he hopes to secure Fight of the Year honors. In the post-fight interview Crawford said that if he can’t secure a fight against Manny Pacquiao next year he wants to go after any other titleholder in the divison. Best of luck to them…
