The WBC had a great weekend full of boxing

The World Boxing Council enjoyed a wonderful weekend of boxing with activity in many places of the world, being the most important battles, the confrontation between Adonis Stevenson and Oleksandr Gvozdyk, in Quebec, and the battle between Deontay Wilder and Tyson Fury in Los Angeles California

Both fights were very dramatic and both events remind the boxing world how much we need to continue working together to make this sport safer. The WBC is praying for Adonis Stevenson, who lost his WBC title on Saturday night and who would later need to undergo emergency surgery.

The WBC will work with Stevenson’s promoters and managers, as well as the local boxing commission, to find relevant information and thus try to prevent future accidents in the ring.

The World Boxing Council wishes to congratulate the Quebec Boxing Commission, as they followed the emergency protocol with excellence, considering the “Golden Hour”, giving Adonis Stevenson the opportunity to have immediate medical attention.

WILDER AND FURY DESERVE A GREAT OVATION FOR THE SHOW WE RECEIVED

The full-weight fight between Deontay Wilder and Tyson Fury turned out to be a sensational and dramatic bout. The final result could not be more fair than the tie decreed by the three judges in their scores.

Although the draw and the difference of points between one judge and another, have created some negative comments on social networks, the WBC is proud of both Wilder and the challenger Fury, as well as the ring officers who worked on this event .

The three judges are honorable members of the boxing community with unquestionable integrity and honesty.

wilder fury draw

Wilder and Fury fought like warriors inside the ring, but at the end of the meeting they gave us a lesson in humility. We are extremely proud of their behavior and deportivism.

Wilder won, Fury won and boxing won.

Boxing is a sport that is scored objectively. There are no goals, no runs, no baskets; It is the judges’ vision round by round to get the final score of the fight.

This fight had two falls, which certainly made the difference for Deontay Wilder to defend his title successfully.

The WBC wishes to recognize the California State Athletic Commission for its dedication and undisputed leadership in boxing. I must commend the CSAC for its work in defining a neutral panel of officials, considering that they would face a boxer from the United States of America and one from the United Kingdom.

We must also recognize the CSAC to have available tools to make use of instant replay during this important fight. although its use was not necessary, the instant reproduction protocol was in place and ready to be used.

The WBC will continue working with all jurisdictions with the intention of promoting agreements and thus improve our sport. We will continue doing it fight after fight, proposing the use of open punctuation after rounds 4 and 8, because only in EE. UU And the United Kingdom does not allow this practice. This is a tool that has provided great results around the world, since it provides transparency to the sport and allows boxers and their corners to be aware of what is being written down to adapt during the fight.

We celebrate with great joy a tremendous weekend of boxing and we continue to pray for the well-being of our former champion Adonis “Superman” Stevenson.
