TIMBER! ROCKY MOUNTAIN HIGH!

By WBCboxing.com

The boxing fans of Texcoco, in the State of Mexico, enjoyed a rocky landslide  at the Palenque of the Fair of the Horse, as undefeated KO thunderbolt Eduardo “Rocky” reigned in slender southpaw Rafael “Potro” Hernández, raining punches  on him,  to TKO him in four torrid rounds, closing the year with another spectacularly successful defence of his  WBC Youth championship.

The early Christmas Special was presented by Promociones del Pueblo with the support of Cavall Sport and Playboy México, reaching  millions of homes through the Televisa Deportes broadcast.

The heavy handed twenty year old,  pulled up his long green socks, justifying his  fifth ranking, showing immense promise, and merely  walking through  ‘Potro’ Hernandez, four times decking the beanpole long armed Venezuelan  who’d travelled far on a jet plane, handing him his tenth and most comprehensive defeat.

Potro’s pawing long right jab was never going to be enough to stern enough to stem an avalanche of punches.  Sporting by far the worst hair do of the year,  which defied the notion of going gray gracefully, white topped Rocky slipped punches, showing a maturing defence and learning curve of boxing guile, to land his own stunners.

It could have all ended in the second. A short range left to the body and right to the head dropped Potro very hard.  He bravely got up looking shellshocked and socked,  then the bell rang.  in the third a right to the head had him back on the canvass, but again he got up. More digging body blows soften him up, culminating in a wicked right hook to his elongated thin ribcage, which yet again felled him. The bell tolled to save him, slightly delaying the end.  Trapped on the ropes in the fourth a flurry ending with a right uppercut to the face crumpled him into a heap, with kindly, humane Referee Gelasio Perez, smartly stepping  in to save him and wave it off at one minute and twenty four seconds.

In he co-main event, local idol Rodrigo ‘Gato’ Guerrero became the new super bantamweight FECOMBOX champion defeating Salvador ‘Pelón’ Juarez in a brawl that will long be remembered by the fans for the great enthusiasm that both warriors offered.
